World Down Syndrome Day is observed on March 21st every year to raise awareness and promote understanding of Down syndrome, a genetic condition caused by the presence of an extra chromosome 21.

The date, March 21st, was chosen to represent the uniqueness of Down syndrome in the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome, which causes developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, and other health challenges.

World Down Syndrome Day aims to celebrate the lives and accomplishments of individuals with Down syndrome and to promote inclusion and equal opportunities for people with the condition. It is also an opportunity to advocate for the rights of people with Down syndrome and to raise awareness of the challenges they face in society.

The theme of World Down Syndrome Day 2023 is "We Decide," highlighting the importance of enabling people with Down syndrome to make their own decisions and live fulfilling lives.
