4 Significant Reasons Gardens Matter

  1. It’s beneficial to your health. Gardening has been proven to be beneficial to health for a long time. Gardening increases your vitamin D levels and is good for your bones and heart because it is weight-bearing exercise. Studies have even shown that gardening reduces dementia risk!

2. It boosts your mood. It never fails to cheer me up after weeding or planting or harvesting for half an hour or more. I found it in the dirt. Serotonin, the hormone that improves our feelings of well-being, is increased when we are exposed to bacteria in the soil.

3. Planetary health depends on gardens. The development of more wild areas leads to the disruption of natural habitats. Gardens become important places for the filtration of water or the sequestration of carbon from the atmosphere. The Smithsonian Institution recently published a study on the importance of native plants and native gardens in maintaining the health of birds, bees, and other insects.

4. Food is amazing benefits! Fresh garden produce tastes a thousand times better than produce that has been sitting on a truck and then in a store for a week or two. What foods do you recommend growing in your garden? Let’s start with whatever fruits and vegetables you enjoy eating! My next step is to look at the list of Dirty Dozen, which is a list of foods that are more likely to contain pesticides.
